Pramit Bhargava, an alumnus of IIT-BHU and IIM-B, is behind the Louie app that enables visually impaired users to use popular apps with voice commands.

A drug reaction 20 years ago affected the retina of Pramit Bhargava, an alumnus of IIT-BHU and IIM-B. Since then, he slowly started losing his vision, and by 2012, it had dropped to a point when he could not read anything. Losing his vision had impacted Bhargava, both mentally and physiologically. Low on confidence, the 53-year-old even started questioning himself.

Semester Examinations December - 2020 using OBE Portal

DU released the tentative datesheet for December 2020 examinations on 5th November 2020. The examinations will commence on 12th December and go on till 24th December in Open Book Examinations (OBE) mode.

The University of Delhi (DU) released the tentative date sheet for December 2020 examinations on Thursday, 5th November 2020. 

As per the previous notification of DU, the exams for this semester as well as previous semester improvement students will happen in an offline-online blended mode.

Modi calls for ensuring opportunity, improving accessibility for persons with disabilities

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that India has taken numerous measures to ensure a positive change in the lives of persons with disabilities, as he gave a call for collectively working towards ensuring opportunity and improving accessibility for them.   

Modi's comments were in the context of the UN choosing the theme of "Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World” to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Appeal For Donation – Score Foundation

To begin with, I would like to thank you all for your support to Score Foundation over the years. Each year, I run the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon (ADHM) to raise funds for our work with blind and visually impaired people through Project Eyeway. We would raise an amount between ten to fourteen lakhs. But unfortunately, due to the pandemic this year, I was unable to participate personally in the virtual ADHM.

As I write this piece, I’m experiencing a mixed set of emotions. I’m thrilled because I have managed to nearly complete a year of this column on ‘Media and Disability’. At the same time I’m sort of disillusioned, thinking if this fortnightly exercise has made any real difference for persons with disabilities. I’m saddened because the media or the society doesn’t much care about vulnerable groups and their respective challenges. But more than anything I’m angry.

Visually impaired bags UGC fellowship, owes it all to dear mother

Ponnani: "The moment my vision started blurring, God lit up a lamp for me in the form of my mother,  said 26-year-old Sreeraj soon after securing Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of the University  Grants Commission. The youth secured JRF in his third attempt.  Sreeraj was born with 95 per cent  visual impairment and he could not do anything without others' help. His mother's daily routine  included taking him to school in the morning and bringing him back home in the evening.

Nethrodaya, a social service institution, has appealed to the Chief Minister to include uneducated visually-impaired persons for provision of monthly maintenance allowance.

In an appeal to the Chief Minister, Nethrodaya, a social service institution, has asked that even uneducated visually-impaired persons be included for provision of monthly maintenance allowance.

C. Govindakrishnan, founder, said that persons with other disabilities such as intellectual disabilities, muscular dystrophy and locomotor disabilities were paid ₹15,000 a month.
