CHENNAI: Counselling on Monday for differently-abled candidates at Anna University saw 163 students allotted engineering seats in various colleges across the State. For the 5137 seats available under visual, hearing and orthopaedically impaired categories, the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions - 2015 received 225 applications. Five applications were rejected for not fulfilling eligibility criteria and/or failure to produce supporting medical certificates, officials said.
On Monday, 220 candidates were called, of whom 163 were allotted seats. The remaining 57 applicants were absent. Of the 163, 19 were hearing impaired, 13 visually impaired and 131 orthopedically impaired.
In the orthopedically impaired category, R Aswini, who was called first, chose Electronics and Communication Engineering at the Anna University’s MIT campus, Chromepet. In the visually impaired category, the first applicant D Karthikeyan chose Mechanical Engineering at Anna University’s College of Engineering campus. In the hearing impaired category, Pooja Ganesh, who was the first name, chose Computer Science Engineering at the MIT campus.
In the top five of the ortho category, three chose ECE while one each chose IT and mechanical engineering. In the top five of visually challenged category, two chose mechanical, while one each chose ECE, CSE and Civil Engineering. In the hearing impaired, two of the top five chose CSE while one each opted for biomedical engineering, ECE and industrial biotechnology.
