Bhimabhoi Samarthya Sibir, a camp for differently-abled persons, was organised at Khariar in the premises of the Khariar Panchayat Samit of Nuapada district. Over 400 differently-abled persons with various physical and mental problems attended the camp for checkup and to get disability certificates from the district administration. Such camps are organised at regular intervals in different block headquarters of the district to help differently-abled persons get certificates for their disabilities,” said Assistant District Social Welfare Officer Akshya Kumar Padhi.
“The Anganwadi Workers of ICDS identified the disabled persons through a field survey and collected detailed information about the deserving persons, which were registered online for generation of form. Those who attended the camp were checked by specialists for issue of certificates,” said Khariar block SEO Duryodhan Bisi, who took the responsibility of organising the camp.
Dr Santosh Kumar Mishra (Orthopaedics), Dr Chittaranjan Acharya (ENT) and Kamal Lochan Dalai (Cardiology) from the Vir Surendra Sai Medical College of Burla, Dinabandhu Behera, Special Educator (MR) and Dr Ramakanta Sahu, eye specialist of the District Headquarters Hospital of Nuapada, attended the camp to conduct the checkup.
“This one-window system of providing services brings a great opportunity for the disabled persons to avail handicap certificates,” said District Handicapped Society president Pradeep Agrawal. A total of 248 persons were checked by the specialist doctors who included 35 visually-impaired persons, 135 orthopaedics, 50 hearing-Impaired and 35 mentally retarded persons. “Certificates would be issued to these people very soon,” said the SEO. Block Development Officer Narayan Chandra Naik and CDPO Mankumari Lombo along with their staffs were also present.
