Arushi, Bhopal in association with Amway India organized an online webinar on the occasion of World White Cane Day on Thursday. This day is celebrated to create awareness and to sensitize people about visual impairment and how they can lead an independent life.

This year due to Covid-19 pandemic this day was celebrated by organizing an online webinar. This webinar was conducted with the help of experts from Saksham Trust, Delhi and Arushi Bhopal and gave information about Mobility and Assistive Technology to the participants. There were participants from all over Madhya Pradesh including visually impaired students, teachers and other professionals.

Krishna Gopal Tiwari, Additional Commissioner, Tribal Welfare, Government of Madhya Pradesh was present as Chief Guest for the function. He said that White Cane is a necessity for Visually Impaired but its importance should be understood by the sighted persons too. Thus it is required to sensitize the sighted persons that what the white cane symbolizes. Debasish Majumdar, Regional Head, of Amway India West region was also present as Special Guest and shared that this initiative of Amway of showing Corporate Social Responsibility with support of various organizations is much appreciated.

Amway has supported Arushi with a Computer Training Centre and Braille Library which has been very helpful for the Visually Impaired persons. Shri Dipendra Manocha, Founder Member from Saksham Trust, New Delhi gave brief information about the recently developed new technologies.

Piyush Chanana who is the Strategy and Innovation Head, Saksham Trust was the main facilitator and gave important information about White Cane and Smart Cane, there uses and do’s and don’ts and his study and research on assistive technology.

He shared that how white cane helps a visually impaired person to be independent mobility. He shared an innovative technique of finding directions with the help of Braille dots. Rohit Trivedi from Arushi and Jignesh Mehta from Amway along with 50 participants from all over Madhya Pradesh participated in the event.
