Manmathanama Ugadi was ushered in with a difference here on Saturday. The members of the Maanaviya Kalyan Trust celebrated the day by distributing sweets and fruits to the residents of a destitute home, a residential school for visually impaired and hearing impaired and beggars outside places of worship.
It was a virtual treat for the packed audience at Paul Harris Auditorium at the Rotary Club with the winners of the Chigaru Chinmaya Awards, given away by the Dr. P.S. Shankar Prathishthan to budding artists.
Industrialist and philanthropist S.S. Patil, educationist Suryakant Patil, physician Katti and secretary of the Manava Kalyan trust Mohammad Bin Ali spent some time with the residents of the destitute home. At the Paul Harris Auditorium it was visually challenged flutist and vocalist of Hindustani classical music V.J. Krutika who stole the limelight. Bharatnatyam exponents N.N. Priyanka and S.T. Chaitanya from Kalaburagi too performed. S.H. Ramya exhibited her expertise in yoga by performing difficult asanas. Karate exponent M.B. Darshan also performed.
Director of the Kalaburagi Rangayana Prof. R.K. Hudgi gave the awards consisting of a cash prize of Rs. 1,111 along with a plaque, a commendation certificate and a shawl to each of the winners.
