Mumbai: BMC has started implementing Dharmaveer Anand Dighe ‘Divyang’ Financial Assistance Scheme for the differently abled aged above 18 years within its jurisdiction. BMC had announced the scheme and allocated around Rs 112 crore for it during the presentation of the 2024-25 budget.
The scheme, a brainchild of chief minister Eknath Shinde, aims to benefit around 60,000 differently abled individuals in the city.
Under the scheme, those with more than 40% disability will receive an assistance of Rs 1,000 per month and those with over 80% disability Rs 3,000 per month. Applicants for assistance under this scheme must possess either a yellow or blue UDID card.
The assistance is being provided under the scheme for the next five years to improve the quality of life of the differently abled. Additional municipal commissioner Sudhakar Shinde said, “The specially abled need assistance, and those with more than 80% disability are extremely dependent on others. This scheme is meant to help them.” Persons who are visually impaired, deaf, with intellectual disability, and other disabilities can avail of the scheme.
