Braille voter’s slips, dummy ballots in capital

524 electors with visual impairment in Thiruvananthapuram

This election, the two Lok Sabha constituencies in Thiruvananthapuram district will have Braille voter’s slips and dummy ballot papers in Braille to help out voters with visual impairment.

Usually, visually challenged voters cast their votes with the help of an assistant. This time, they will have an option. ,” Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena said.

“We are keeping two dummy ballot papers with Braille script at the booths. The presiding officer will hand over the dummy ballot to the voter on his/her arrival. They can practise on that for one or two minutes,” Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena said.

According to an EC survey, Thiruvananthapuram has 524 electors with visual impairment. The State has 14,944 voters in this category. The EC had collected overall data on 1,35,753 PwD electors who might require special aids such as transportation on April 23.
