THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:Health Minister V S Sivakumar will inaugurate the medical camp for children with disabilities which will be held at the Government UPS, Fort, popular by the name ‘Satram School’, on Friday. The Minister will distribute Assistive devices at the programme.
The camp will cater to children with hearing impairment, mental retardation and locomotor disabilities. Children in pre-primary classes can also participate.
The programme is organised by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan with the support of National Rural Health Mission. On July 14 and 15, a similar camp will be held for children with visual impairment. As per the statistics by SSA teachers in 2015, 1,084 new cases of children with visual impairment and 36 new cases of children with cerebral palsy have been recorded. There are 27 children who are totally blind.
A total of 95 children with hearing impairment, inclusive of new and old cases were recorded, 45 with locomotor disabilties, 218 of mental retardation, 30 with speech impairment, 29 of autism and 23 of multiple disabilities.
