The Mountaineering Association of J&K is going to host the first National Sport Climbing Championship for visually challenged climbers on March 27 and 28 at Sprawling Buds School, Bantalab.
This was stated by chairman of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, North Zone Committee, S Bhattacharjee who was here to inspect the climbing infrastructure and other necessary allied facilities available at the venue for the conduct of the national competition.
While exhorting the climbers to prepare for the forthcoming Asian Games in Indonesia this year and Tokyo Olympics in 2020, Bhattacharjee appreciated the efforts of the association to spot talent at the grass-roots level by regularly organising day-long coaching-cum-competitions for local schools.
He said two ace climbers of the state, Shivani Charak and Mrityunjay Sharma, are likely to be invited for trials for the selection of the Indian team for the Asian Games slated to be held in Indonesia in August.
Meanwhile, Ram Khajuria, general secretary of the Mountaineering Association of J&K, expressed gratitude to S Bhattacharjee for the allotment of the national championship for visually challenged climbers of the state.
