CHENNAI: On the 100th day in office during the current tenure, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday made 17 announcements under Rule 110 for five departments — Social Welfare, Differently Abled Welfare, Environment, Small Industries and Stationery and Printing Department.
Key announcements include desilting of Paruthipattu lake in Avadi (`28.16 crore), Amma Environment Park in Korukkupet (`2 crore), new building for the juvenile home at Kellys in Chennai (`2.50 crore), distribution of reflecting foldable sticks to 5,000 visually impaired persons (`1.58 crore), a pilot project in Chennai and Sivaganga to identify hearing problems in infants (`3.30 crore), grant for two industrial complexes by SIDCO with private partnership for small and micro and medium enterprises (`15 crore each), grant for setting up of industrial complexes in 478 acres in three districts (`27 Crore), multi-storey industrial complexes at Tirumudivakkam near Chennai (`50 crore) and new industrial complexes in Sivaganga and Namakkal districts (`36 crore).
Infrastructure at the electronics industrial complexes in Coimbatore would be undertaken at a cost of `50 lakh while the multi-storey industrial complex at Thirumudivakkam would have 250 units. New industrial complexes in Namakkal and Sivaganga districts would come up in 186 acres. Industrial complexes to be set up by entrepreneurs on 478 acres in Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Coimbatore would have all facilities.
A solar power unit would be installed at Kakkalur industrial complex in Tiruvallur district to generate 300 kw of power at a cost of `3 crore. Announcing a slew of schemes for the disabled, she said a pilot project would be implemented in Chennai and Sivaganga for diagnosing infants’ hearing problems. It would be implemented in 11 maternity hospitals of Chennai. In Sivaganga district, it would be implemented at district headquarters hospital, taluk hospital and upgraded Primary Health Centres.
Augmentative Alternative Communication would be inculcated to special children including those affected by autism, Alzheimer’s and genetic disorders. Visual and communicative techniques would be used to train these kids. Under this scheme, tablets with with AAVAAZ app would be used to set right communication deficiencies among these children. In the first phase, 416 special children in various schools would be trained.
The Amma Environment Park at Korukkupet would have all facilities for school children and display materials for creating awareness about environment.
Paruthipattu lake in Avadi municipality would be desilted. Apart from improving the lake’s canals, small islands would be created so that birds would frequent it. The Vellode bird sanctuary in Erode district, frequented by thousands of birds, would be desilted and renovated. These works would be undertaken with `4.90 crore. Similarly, desilting of Muthampalayam lake in Erode Corporation would be taken up for `2.75 crore. The food grant for those in NGO-run old age homes would be increased to `1,200. The income ceiling for staying in government service homes at nine places in the State would be hiked to `72,000. This would apply to beneficiaries under the scheme to train secondary grade teachers and Sathyavani Muthu Ammal memorial sewing machine distribution scheme.
