Parents and caregivers of disabled kids in Gujarat take note! A new centre called Urmi Divyang School Research & Therapy centre, which will look into research as well as therapy needs of disabled students has been opened in Sama in Vadodara.

The centre promises to reach out to children with physical and mental disabilities irrespective of their economic backgrounds. It will provide, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sensory integrated therapy and speech therapy.

For seeking admission to the centre, all applicants must give an IQ assessment report by a registered medical officer as well as standard documents. Once enrolled, students will be trained to become independent under the guidance of a special educator.

The centre will give pre-vocational training to the students through special classes in craft. The aim is to provide manpower to places like banks, railways and bus stations.

After therapies, if the students are found to be capable of studying along with others, they will be sent to mainstream classes or schools to study regular subjects.
