Easter Egg Hunt Uses Beeping Eggs for Blind and Visually Impaired Children

Axton, VA-- It's about the time of the year again when kids are going on Easter egg hunts.

But there's a group of children that usually don't get to do that, kids that are blind or visually impaired.  But one event in Henry County is changing that. On Saturday they held the third annual Southside Audible Egg Hunt at the Smith River Sports Complex. It's an opportunity for blind or visually impaired children to hunt for eggs using their sense of hearing. There were more than 130 eggs beeping.

The organizer was inspired to do the event after missing out on egg hunts as a child because of her vision.

"This is an opportunity to take a really ordinary event and just kind of elevate it and let these children have the opportunity to do something they wouldn't normally get to do," said Lori Floyd, Teacher for Blind and Visually Impaired with Henry County Schools.

The beeping eggs were made possible by a bomb technician with Virginia State Police.
