Are you visually impaired and interested in learning basic computer skills to enhance your education and career opportunities? Navajeevan Parivarthan Centre is offering a free residential training program on Fundamentals of Computers exclusively for persons with vision impairment.
Participants completing the program will receive a Certificate of Achievement, provided they maintain at least 90% attendance throughout the course.
About the Course
This course is designed to help visually impaired individuals become self-reliant in using computers for education, employment, and daily life. It focuses on:
Computer Basics: Starting from keyboard orientation, participants will learn to operate computers using the NVDA screen reader.
MS Office: Practical hands-on training in MS Word and MS Excel.
Internet Skills: Browsing, email management, and accessing online information.
- Basic Life Skills and Employability: Communication skills, mobility training, and grooming to boost confidence and independence.
Course Curriculum
The Fundamentals of Computers Workshop includes the following modules:
Keyboard Orientation and Computer Basics with NVDA:
Learning the keyboard layout, typing skills, reading comprehension with a screen reader, editing, dialog box navigation, and file/folder management.
Microsoft Word:
Editing, proofreading, preparing error-free documents, and basic formatting.
Microsoft Excel:
Navigation, data entry, selection, sorting, auto filter, and Excel formatting.
Internet Usage:
Web page navigation, quick navigation, Google search engine, Gmail, YouTube, and accessing online resources.
Basic Employability:
Training environment, shared responsibilities, attitude building, job awareness, and note-taking skills.
Mobility Training:
Basics of indoor and outdoor mobility.
Life Skills:
Communication skills, personal grooming and hygiene, disability acceptance, and self-awareness.
Course Details
Start Date: 20th January 2025
End Date: 22 March 2025
Timings: Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM (with breaks)
Duration: 315 hours (2 months)
Mode: Residential Course (Accommodation and food provided free of cost)
Batch Size: 15 candidates
Location: Navajeevan Parivarthan Centre, Tirupati
Eligibility
- Persons with vision impairment aged 18–45 years.
- Class 10 pass-outs pursuing further studies, graduates, or job seekers.
- Individuals with late blindness willing to relearn computer skills using screen readers.
