Govt felicitates women’s visually-impaired cricket team

The government has honoured Nepal’s women’s visually-impaired cricket team for its achievement in the first-ever International Blind Women Cricket Tournament 2014.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports awarded the 19 people, including 14 players, Rs 10,000 each.

Sports minister Purusottam Poudel and Sports Secretary Dependra Nath Sharma handed over the cash rewards to the members of the team.

The team comprises captain Bhagwati Bhattarai, Gita Poudel, Om Maya Pun, Sita Dhakal, Mina Chettri, Mankesi CHaudhary, Sunita Ghiire, Bhagwati Amgain, Sarita Ghimire, Rita Thapa, Nima BC, Muna Aryal, Maya Gautam and Asha Regami.

Other members of the team are coach Kritan Shrestha Dulal and managers Bimal Poudel and Parbaraj Bista. Cricket Association of the Blind, Nepal (CAB-N) President Pawan Ghimire and umpire Ganga Prasad Poudel were also honoured.

Nepal had defeated a visually-impaired women’s team from UK 3-0 in the International Blind Women Cricket Tournament 2014 organised by CAB-N held at the Institute of Engineering Cricket Grounds in Pulchowk, Lalitpur. The 3-match series ended on October 28, 2014.
