Indian Blind Sports Federation Silver Jubilee Celebration
The Indian Blind Sports Association (IBSA) as you may be aware, is a premier national sports organisation in the blindness sector in the country having about 150 institutions/organisations of and for the blind in 25 Indian States as its affiliates. The Association is affiliated to the Paralympic Committee of India.
At the international level, the Association is the sole Indian affiliate of the World Blind Sports Body, the International Blind Sports Federation.
IBSA has, now, completed 25 years of its existence. It is organising a week-long series of events from January 4-10, 2012 to commemorate its silver jubilee. The week long events will be inaugurated by Mr. Sultan Ahmed, Hon’ble Minister of State for Tourism, Government of India and President, Paralympic Committee of India on January 4, 2012 at 11.00 a.m.
The events taking place during the week consist of national tournaments in:
(a) Football,
(b) Kabaddi
(c) Powerlifting.
A coaching camp for blind sports instructors and promising blind athletes is another important feature of the week. About 350 blind athletes from all over the country will participate in the these week-long events.
The week will conclude with a closing function on 10th January at 3.30 p.m.
The salient feature of the function is the presentation of silver jubilee special awards to outstanding blind athletes winning medals at different international championships, prominent affiliates participating actively in IBSA sports meets, affiliates winning maximum Championships Trophies, in Men/Women category separately, leading sports coaches for the blind and the
Association’s founder-members. In all, about 35 awards will be presented at the function.
May we mention here that IBSA has been engaged actively in promoting blind sports in India during the last 25 years. It has, so far, conducted 17 national sports meets for the blind in accordance with international rules.
It has also sponsored a number of blind athletes from India to participate in different international events/tournaments including international federation’s World Championships and Games for the blind in Madrid (Spain), Quebec (Canada), Sao Paulo (Brazil) & Antalya (Turkey) as well as World Youth and Students Championships in Colorado Springs, USA.
