A brief introduction about our organization and the area of work –
Indian Association for the Blind (IAB), based in Madurai & Chennai, South India, is a well-known non-profit organization working at the grassroots for the rehabilitation of people with visual challenges. It was established in 1985 by visually challenged activist Late Mr.S.M.A Jinnah and a group of like-minded visually challenged people with a vision to empower visually challenged people to become self-reliant by providing comprehensive rehabilitation, education, and employment opportunities.  IAB has a special focus on the socioeconomically disadvantaged visually challenged children and adults, particularly those from rural areas. Since its inception, IAB has educated and rehabilitated more than 25000 visually challenged children and youths mainly from rural Tamil Nadu. At present more than 1500 visually challenged children and youths, are being supported by IAB to pursue their dreams of self-reliance and life of dignity. IAB has been the pioneer in empowering the visually challenged towards self-reliance through the initiatives in the field of Education, Career and Skills Training, Residential and support services. In recognition of its exemplary work in the field of disability, IAB was conferred thrice with the “National Award for the Best Institution” by Government of India (2001, 2007 and 2013)".
