Pune: Visually challenged girls of NFBM Jagriti School for Blind Girls in Alandi Devachi have this year too secured a 100% result in Std X SSC board exams.
A total of 12 students appeared for the board exam from the school.
Anjali Thakur, a 17-year-old from Nawada in Bihar, topped with 78.2%.
She said a combination of learning from Braille textbooks audio, videos and online classes helped her score well.
English has always been my favourite subject. I found science very difficult to learn, especially physics, but whenever we had doubts, they were solved in additional online classes,” Thakur said.
She aspired to study law and become a judge.
Thakur’s father runs a small cloth business in Mumbai, and her mother is back home looking after her two siblings.
. Anjali has always been hard working. We fully support her in whatever she wants to do in life,” her mother, Vidyadevi Thakur, said.
At NFBM Jagriti school, along with regular classes, the girls receive additional coaching in academics, computer classes and life skill coaching in conversational English, orientation, and mobility.
Nikita Sawatkar (16), who scored 73%, came in second in the school, while Vedika Ranerajput (16) and Sriya Verma (17), with a percentage of 72.8, came in third.
Sawatkar hailed from Lahri, a small village in Nanded, and wanted to pursue finance.
“We ensure that students start their classes online in May, which are conducted by external experts so they have enough time to prepare.
Students usually face difficulty in preparing for subjects like science, which are visual, but we ensure that they revise and get the concepts clear,” Aarti Takawane, head of the skill development centre, told TOI.
As many as 11 students will continue their further education at St Mira’s College and be a part of NFBM Skill Development Centre with support from Jagriti school.
