Ludhiana, December 13

Visually impaired Ankit Kapoor (33), with six others, was honoured with the state award for social work during a function to commemorate International Day of Disabled in Fazilka yesterday.

Kapoor said the visually impaired and physically disabled must not feel disheartened due to their disability, as they could outshine anyone. Citing the example of Paralympic winners bringing more medals for the country than the Olympic participants, he said the government needed to do more to encourage the disabled people.

Ankit started working for the welfare of visually impaired and disabled at the age of 18, after completing his schooling from VRTC, Hambran Road.

He started the Sports Welfare Association for visually impaired, then worked as member of the Bharat Netraheen Samaj, an NGO. In 2014, he started Ahuti Charitable Trust and a braille bank to give stationery to the visually impaired. He also started a library for the disabled and a matrimonial website.
