MVD relaxes norms for driving license to differently-abled.

Kochi: The fresh norms and guidelines of the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) to provide driving license to differently-abled citizens will come into effect from April 1, 2018. With this new circular, people having monocular vision can also apply for driving license. People with partial hearing problems and disability in legs or hands will also get driving license as per the new norms. According to the norms approved by state transport commissioner K Padmakumar, the licensing authority should give priority to issue licence if the differently-abled is found to be fit enough to drive motor vehicle in the driving test. In the MVD circular issued on March 14, the licensing authority is asked to give priority to issue driving license to the differently-abled in order to help them to lead a normal life.......

As per the circular, priority should be given to differently-abled during the test. Apart from the usual test, separate learners license test and driving license test should be held for such people.......

For them, learners test should be conducted on ground floor in offices without elevator facility. The officials are also directed to attach a copy of the circular along with learners license to differently-abled.......

The disability certificate should be produced from ophthalmologist, ENT specialist, ortho surgeon of the government hospital.......

In the case of individuals with monocular vision, the vision of the other eye should be 6/12 or better and horizontal vision should be 120 degree or b...
