RANCHI: The Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK-based NGO Sight Savers on Monday to provide education and free learning devices and aides to the differently-abled children. Provisions will be made to include 19,000 low vision and 2,000 blind children of the state within the mainstream education system.

JEPC project director, Mukesh Kumar, said, "The NGO will provide free aides and special training for the teachers to deal with these children."

JEPC also plans to send around 150 government school students to Delhi in January. "We will choose children who excelled in fields like academics, sports and send them to Delhi. They will be taken to see tourist spots and we will also try to arrange a meeting with the education minister and other central ministers," Kumar said.

He added, "We plan to make Jharkhand a zero per cent dropout state by 2019. Once we have got the ISO certification by mid-January, our first step will be to make the office of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan paperless."
