Most of us like to go out with family and friends, watch films in the theatre or dine out in a nice restaurant. We don’t think twice before spending a few thousand rupees. Have you ever wondered that someone’s future could be at stake for that same amount of money that we easily part with?
24-year-old Abhishek lives in Ramanagara district in Karnataka. He lost his eye sight when he was thirteen. His father, a daily wage labourer tried everything in his might but the sight loss was irreversible. The boy was forced to drop out of school and remain confined in his home.
Six years later, his neighbour, a professor, motivated Abhishek to study via distance learning. He even helped arrange for a scribe and Abhishek cleared Class 10 and 12 with a high score.
The lack of resources at home suppressed his desire to pursue higher education. He wanted to offer a helping hand to his parents. He asked Eyeway for an opportunity to earn some money, but our counselor told him he needed a qualification and proper training before he sought employment.
Eyeway facilitated Abhishek’s admission in a government college. And put him in touch with a trainer, who at a minimal fee, taught him to use computers with a screen reader. Luckily a relative gave Abhishek a used laptop which helped in improving his reading and writing skills.
But now he has to pay INR 6000 as college fee, which he doesn’t have. He is worried of losing out on the chance to acquire knowledge and become self-reliant. He applied for a National Scholarship as well, but there is no guarantee as to how many students get shortlisted under the scheme.
Eyeway is seeking support from individuals and organizations to fund his college education. A small donation from you today can change someone’s tomorrow.
