Visually impaired people in the Civil Services

Working ona query received on Eyeway helpdesk, Mr Pranay Gadodia approached the UnionPublic Service Commission (UPSC) on behalf of Eyeway looking for specificinformation pertaining to visually impaired people in the Civil Services. Onrefusal from the commission to answer anything over the phone, the sameinformation was sought using the RTI Act.
Respondingto the RTI application, the commission responded that out of the 22 disabledcandidates finally selected in Civil Service (Main exam) 2007 by UPSC in theresult declared on May 16, 2008, two are visually impaired, but none of themhold a 100% disability certificate.
Thecommission, however, refused to divulge the contact details of these twopersons citing Section 8 (1) (j) of RTI Act, 2005.
Writing onbehalf of the commission, Mr Prachish Khanna, Central Public InformationOfficer of the UPSC, stated that two other queries have been referred to theDepartment of Personnel and Training as they pertain to the said department.
Eyeway isyet to receive any response to those queries from the concerned department, butplan to share the same with the public as soon as they receive it.
