Registrations are open for Mitra Jyothi's 58th Digital Literacy 3-months Residential Training Program for Visually Impaired students.
Mitra Jyothi in collaboration with NIIT Foundation is happy to announce the commencement of its 58th Digital Literacy 3-months residential training program, focusing on MS Office and Digital Awareness specifically designed for students with visual impairments. This specialized program empowers visually impaired students in their academic and personal development journey. Students will embark on an important technology journey, that will greatly enhance their educational and professional opportunities as they pursue higher studies or job opportunities.
Duration: 6th January 2025 to 31st March 2025. The program is certified by NIIT Foundation (National Institute of Information Technology) in collaboration with Mitra Jyothi
Eligibility criteria:
* Visually Impaired candidates (blind/low vision)
* Age - 18 and above
* Minimum educational qualification required is completion of 12th std. Exceptions will be considered on a case-to-case basis
* Fluency in English (written and spoken) will be an added advantage
* Visually impaired students seeking confidence building, personality development, skill enhancement, and increased independence

Full-time 3-months residential program with sessions in:
Computer skills (Windows 11 Operating System, Screen readers - NVDA and JAWS, MS Office 21, internet usage, etc)
* Introduction to Computers
* Machine, Keyboard and Screen orientation
* Typing lessons with ‘Talking Typer”/Typing speed
* Screen Reader – Introduction to NVDA and NVDA training
* Software and hardware overview
* Storage devices
* Computer Accessories
* Screen Navigation and manoeuvring across screens and tabs
* Introduction to Windows
* Files and folder management
* Notepad, Calculator and other simple programs
* Software downloads
* Using MS Office Products with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel & Power Point
* Email usage and email etiquette
* Introduction to JAWS and tips on using JAWS instead of NVDA
* Enriching experiences with peer groups
Other Activities:
* Mobility & Orientation techniques to navigate indoor and outdoor environments
* Signature Training
* Spoken English Classes
* Soft skills and Personality Development sessions
* Confidence building activities
* Awareness on Legal Literacy.

Teaching Aids and Equipment Used:
Computers with Windows 11 and Office 365.
NVDA, JAWS, Talking Typer, spell tools, headsets, assistive devices like DAISY player.
Tactile diagrams, White Cane, Smart Cane, Board games.
Course Format:
3 months residential with in-house dormitory facilities for girls and boys.
Full-day classes (Monday to Saturday) 9:30am to 5:30pm.
To ensure, effective delivery of the course, leave of absence will be granted only in case of emergencies.
Facilities:
Clean and hygienic accommodation for all students.
Three simple wholesome nutritious vegetarian meals provided daily with two tea breaks.
