Objective: The National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) aims to provide financial assistance to students with benchmark disabilities for pursuing Master's and Ph.D. courses abroad in fields like Engineering, Management, Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences, Agricultural Science, Medicine, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Humanities, Social Science, Law, and Fine Arts.
Eligibility Criteria:

  • For Ph.D.: A minimum of 55% marks or equivalent in a relevant Master’s degree.
  • For Master’s Degree: A minimum of 55% marks or equivalent in a relevant Bachelor's degree.
  • Applicants must not have already pursued or completed a Master's/Ph.D. abroad using any scholarship from the Indian government or any other organisation.
  • This scholarship is only available once in a lifetime.

Age Limit:

  • Applicants must be below 35 years of age as of January 1st of the application year.

Financial Assistance:

  • Tuition Fee: As per actual costs.
  • Maintenance Allowance:
    • US: $15,400 per annum
    • UK: GBP 9,900 per annum
  • Contingency Allowance:
    • US: $1,500 per annum
    • UK: GBP 1,100 per annum
  • Journey Allowance: $20 one-time.
  • Equipment Allowance: $20 one-time.
  • Other Expenses: Includes visa fees, medical insurance, travel expenses, and examination fees for required tests like GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, etc.
  • Duration of Award:
    • Ph.D.: Up to 4 years.
    • Master’s Degree: 1 to 3 years depending on the course duration.

Selection Procedure:

  • Applications are reviewed by a Screening Committee and then assessed by a Selection Committee based on qualifications, disability category, university, and course.
  • No changes in university or course are allowed after selection.

Mandatory Conditions:

  • Selected candidates must join the foreign university within three years of selection.
  • A surety bond of Rs. 50,000 with two sureties is required.
  • Awardees must return to India within one month after completing their course, with no financial support for extended stays abroad.

Penalties and Monitoring:

  • Defaulters, or those providing false information, must repay the scholarship amount with interest.
  • The Indian Mission abroad monitors the academic progress of awardees and disburses scholarship funds accordingly.
