Finding Her Way Back

Varsha Mishra, a 27-year-old woman from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, grew up in a farming family with limited means. She was born with Retina Coloboma, a visual impairment that her family didn’t fully understand at the time. Despite her condition, Varsha attended mainstream schools and completed her graduation.

In 2022, her eyesight began to worsen significantly, affecting her daily life. With little awareness about available support, she stayed at home for nearly a year, feeling unsure and discouraged about her future.

In January 2024, a turning point came when a friend told her about the Eyeway Helpline. She reached out and shared her situation with the counselors. They listened, empathized with her struggles, and guided her to take her first step—obtaining a Disability Certificate and a UDID card.

By March 2024, Eyeway counselors followed up and encouraged her to apply for a government pension. With their help, she successfully submitted her application and began receiving financial support by June 2024. This small but crucial step boosted her confidence.

The next step was skill-building. Eyeway connected her with the National Association for the Blind (NAB) in Delhi, where she was trained in computer usage with a screen reader and learned to operate a smartphone using TalkBack technology.

In February 2025, Varsha reconnected with Eyeway, expressing her desire to find employment and become financially independent. Understanding her aspirations, the Eyeway counselors guided her to Sarthak Educational Trust. Varsha enrolled in one of their training programs, where she developed key professional skills such as computer literacy, communication, and workplace readiness.

With her dedication and support from the training program, Varsha soon secured a position as a counselor at Physics Wallah, an EdTech platform. In her role, she assists students by addressing their academic and emotional concerns, drawing from her own experiences to guide others. This job not only enables her to support herself financially but also empowers her to contribute meaningfully to society, breaking stereotypes around disability and proving that with the right support, no dream is too distant.
