New Delhi: Delhi govt is set to launch a series of welfare initiatives aimed at the visually impaired and senior citizens. Chief minister Rekha Gupta announced on Sunday that several residential and support facilities will be inaugurated, with more projects in the pipeline—reflecting her administration's focus on long-neglected sections of society.
A key initiative is the Atal Drishti Girls' Hostel, a residential facility for visually impaired college-going women in Delhi. Located near Timarpur, close to Delhi University, the hostel features barrier-free infrastructure to ensure a secure environment for students. Built at a cost of Rs 13.42 crore, it can accommodate 96 residents and includes accessible amenities, support services and spaces for learning and development, stated the chief minister's office. This hostel addresses a long-standing gap, where visually impaired girls often struggle to find safe accommodation near colleges. We want to ensure no one is deprived of education due to physical or financial barriers," said the CM.
Another upcoming facility is the Atal Asha Home, a ra residential and rehabilitation centre for people with developmental disabilities. Located in Narela, it has been built at a cost of Rs 40.60 crore and can house 220 residents.
The centre will provide medical care, nutrition, vocational training and recreational activities to help residents live a dignified life.
For Delhi's elderly population, govt has also developed the Savitribai Phule Senior Citizens' Home in Paschim Vihar. Constructed at a cost of Rs 10.64 crore, it will accommodate 96 senior citizens, offering medical facilities and recreational space.
These facilities are scheduled to be inaugurated around the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as part of a series of welfare announcements.
