A Step Toward Stability

Anil Kumar, a 45-year-old resident of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has lived with vision loss since childhood. At the age of 11, he began experiencing severe pain in his eyes. Doctors diagnosed him with retinoblastoma, a condition that led to the removal of one eye. Soon after, his vision began to deteriorate in the other eye as well. Despite treatment, Anil eventually lost his sight completely.

Before losing vision, Anil had studied up to primary level. But after becoming blind, he had to discontinue his education. Since then, he has lived with his family of six members, including his father, brother, sister-in-law, and two nephews. Anil remained unmarried and largely dependent on family support.

For some time, Anil received a disability pension from the Uttar Pradesh government. However, his pension was stopped and for nine months he did not receive any financial aid. Without this support, he struggled to meet even his basic needs and sank into depression. During this difficult time, a friend told him about Eyeway.

When Anil contacted the Eyeway helpline, the counsellors guided him on how to resolve his pension issue. With their help, his pension was restarted, bringing him much-needed relief and financial stability. Anil expressed happiness and gratitude for the timely support.

Looking ahead, Eyeway is also assisting him in exploring options for self-employment. He has been encouraged to start a flour mill business, which can help him earn a steady income and lead a more independent life.

Anil’s story shows how access to the right information and support can restore hope and open the way to rebuilding one’s life.
