| Satyam Singh, a 29-year-old resident of Uttarakhand’s Nainital district, lost his eyesight more than a decade ago, when he was in Class 10. A genetic condition caused his vision to fade gradually until he could no longer read or see the blackboard. Medical examinations confirmed that there was no cure, and he was forced to discontinue his education. The years that followed were difficult. Satyam visited several hospitals, hoping for treatment, but his efforts brought little relief. Gradually, he began to accept his condition and focus on living as independently as possible. In 2014, he applied for a disability pension, a UDID card, and a railway concession certificate small but important steps toward rebuilding his life. Despite these measures, Satyam continued to feel unsure about how to resume his studies or plan for the future. That changed when he discovered the Hamari Vani platform, which connected him to the Eyeway Helpline—a resource dedicated to empowering persons with visual impairment through information, counseling, and training. |
