Access Begins with Identity

Ahmad Md. Sharif, a young visually impaired student from Hyderabad, is steadily shaping a future built on determination and self-reliance. He completed his Class 10 from a blind school and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com). Ahmad lives with his family of five and is the only member with visual impairment, which has made his journey both unique and challenging.

From an early stage, Ahmad was clear about one thing—he wanted to become independent and create a stable career for himself. With this goal in mind, he took a step toward skill development by completing a web design course from the National Association for the Blind (NAB), Delhi. His willingness to learn and explore opportunities has always been a strong driving force in his life.

While working toward his goals, Ahmad realized the importance of having a Unique Disability ID (UDID) card to access government benefits and services. However, understanding the application process and completing the formalities independently proved to be difficult. Looking for guidance, he reached out to Eyeway.

With proper counselling and step-by-step support from Eyeway, Ahmad was able to successfully apply for and obtain his UDID card. This has opened new opportunities for him—he can now apply for disability pension, access travel concessions like railway and bus passes, and benefit from several schemes meant for persons with disabilities.

Eyeway continues to support Ahmad in his next step. He is now being guided toward enrolling in a stenography course at NAB, Secunderabad, which will strengthen his skills and improve his employment prospects.
