Hasmuddin is a 26-year-old visually impaired person from Siddharth Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. He lives with his parents, and his father is a farmer. He has one brother and one sister, both of whom are married. His wife is sighted, and he is the only visually impaired person in his family.
Hasmuddin was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree at Siddharth University, Uttar Pradesh. Unfortunately, he lost his eyesight completely during his graduation and was unable to appear for his third-year examinations. Due to a lack of awareness about accessible learning resources and the support available for visually impaired students, he had to discontinue his studies. This interruption affected his educational journey and made it difficult for him to continue pursuing his goals.
In July 2026, Hasmuddin learned about the Eyeway Helpdesk through a Google search and contacted us for guidance and support. During counselling, we motivated him to resume his education and explained that visual impairment does not have to be a barrier to achieving his ambitions. We also guided him on using accessible technology and other learning resources to study independently.
With Eyeway’s support, Hasmuddin enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor of Arts programme at Delhi University School of Open Learning (DU SOL), giving him a fresh opportunity to continue his education. To help him access digital learning resources, we assisted him in obtaining a smartphone through the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) Scheme.
We also facilitated his membership with Sugamya Pustakalaya, a digital library that provides accessible reading materials for persons with visual impairments. Through this membership, Hasmuddin can access audiobooks related to his syllabus and listen to his study materials independently. In addition, we informed him about the National Scholarship application process and guided him on how to apply. He plans to complete the application process at a Jan Seva Kendra.
With Eyeway’s counselling and support, Hasmuddin has regained the confidence to resume his educational journey. His experience highlights how access to the right information, assistive technology, accessible learning resources, and timely guidance can help visually impaired individuals overcome barriers and move towards their goals.
Hasmuddin expressed his gratitude to Eyeway, describing it as a helpful organisation for visually impaired people. He also expressed the hope that Eyeway would continue its work of supporting and empowering many more people like him.
His journey is a reminder that losing sight does not mean losing the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a better future. With determination and the right support, it is possible to begin again and move forward with confidence.
