Jordan Mouton, a 16-year-old junior at Cypress Falls High School in Houston, U.S.A, is a judoJordan Mouton, a 16-year-old junior at Cypress Falls High School in Houston, U.S.A, is a judo player. She plays the game with such precision, that on watching her recent performance at Cahill's Judo Academy in San Bruno, you would never know that she is severely visually impaired. When she was eight, Mouton was found to have Rod/Cone Dystrophy, a name given to a wide range of eye conditions. However, she continued playing soccer until she was 12. Jordan was devastated, when she was forced to give up soccer, due to deterioration of her eye condition. It was the support of her family that helped her overcome the trauma of losing her sight. In spite of her visual impairment, she kept her interest in sports alive.In July 2005, Willy Cahill, owner of Cahill's Judo Academy recognised Mouton's athletic ability and encouraged her to start judo in Houston. She then came to San Bruno in March 2006, to learn from the master himself. Pleased with her interest in the game, Jordan said, “I like the energy of judo”. She adds, “I'm a yellow belt in the 52-kilogram weight class, but I'm working now towards a green belt".
