President awards developers of Indian language text to speech software

‘Prologix Software Solutions Pvt. Ltd.’ which developed the local language speech synthesis software 'Vaachak' was felicitated with the National Technology Award by the President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, for this achievement on World Disability Day in the capital.

‘Vaachak’ - the world’s first Indian language text to speech software (T.T.S.) converts Hindi and English text into natural & pleasant sounding speech. Vaachak enables every Indian easy access to information, including people with visual impairment. The cost-effective and innovative technology, which has a pleasant and natural-sounding ‘speech’, is seen as a tool to ‘eradicate information disability’ in India.

Prologix has also won the Uttar Pradesh State technology award for Vaachak. Vibhu Agarwal, president and managing director, said, “Vaachak can play an important role in the creation of an empowered, educated and enlightened India.” The National Association for the Blind, Delhi, the Election Commission of India, the Government of Uttaranchal, Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation are some of the prominent institutions that have already put the software to use.

Prologix plans to produce T.T.S. software in other Indian languages.
