This city teacher is a Samaritan for many of his students for he gives them moral support and financial support too.

Meet V Fazlullah, a teacher in computer applications at JSS Polytechnic for Differently Abled (JSS-PDA). Fazlullah bought talking calculators for visually challenged students at the institute which has helped them immensely.

"Visually challenged students have talent but they do not have the right kind of assistive devices to help them overcome their shortcoming. This was why I bought them talking calculators," said the 60-year-old, who joined the college four years back.

The difference that these calculators have made to the children has encouraged Fazlullah. He now wants to ensure that every visually impaired student pursuing the diploma course in computer applications has a calculator.

JSS- PDA principal Nanjunadaswamy said: "When Fazlullah came forward to help the students, we readily agreed to it because it benefits students in their studies. We are thankful to him. Students found it hard to deal with mathematical problems at initial stage now it is easier for them."

Gokul Gowda G, a beneficiary, told TOI: "We only need to read out the question and the calculator will to the mathematical problems. Initially we didn't have the facility and we struggled for nearly one year. Solving the problems has become easier now for all eight of us."

Rakshith B N, another beneficiary, said: "We are grateful to our teacher. Talking calculator has helped us a lot."
