Walk for the visually-impaired tomorrow

HYDERABAD : A centre for Braille learning which is being developed by Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) at the Louise Braille Park in Malakpet, would be inaugurated on October 15, International White Cane Day.

A rally would also be held from Malakpet Police Station to the park. Deputy Chief Minister Mohd. Mahmood Ali and senior government officials will flag off the walk. Participants in the walk will participate blindfolded.

“We want others to understand the plight of the visually impaired,” said Maddela Gangaram, president of Friendly Environment for the Disabled (FED), an organisation working for the visually-impaired and disabled people.

The activists said that increasing number of accidents involving the disabled has to be tackled by making changes to public spaces.
