Tue, 05/12/2015 - 10:45 -- geeta.nair

Chinmaya Dhal (15), a visually-impaired boy of village Oliepada under Jajpur district is now the pride of his parents and of the area for getting ‘A’ grade by scoring 553 marks out of 600 in this year’s High School Certificate (HSC) examination. He has also scored 100 marks in Mathematics.

“Chinmaya was born blind but not without a vision. By dint of his hard work he got good marks in the examination. He is now an example for all disabled children,” said Niranjan Sahoo, a teacher of the Upendra Kumar High School at Abdulpur where Chinmaya was reading.

Chinmaya said, “Life is a challenge for me and I accepted it for which I have scored marks on expected lines. Earlier, I was reading at the Bhim Bhoi Blind School in Bhubaneswar, but last year I read in Class-IX at the Upendra Kumar High School.” He wants to be a scientist, he added. Chinmaya’s father Ramesh Dhal said, “I do hard work as a daily labourer, but I never neglected my son’s study.” Chinmaya’s mother Parbati works as an Anganwadi helper.

Although Chinmaya reads through Braille, he appeared at the examination with the help of a writer from a lower class provided by the Board Of Secondary Education
