THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: People with disability can now take the help of a scribe, a person to read out aloud or a lab assistant, to help write exams. The decision was shared in a press statement issued from the office of Social Justice Minister M K Muneer.
Apart from aides, a person with disability is also entitled to get a compensatory time of 20 minutes for every hour of the examination and an hour for a three-hour examination. Talking calculator, tailor frame, Braille slate, Abacus, geometry kit, Braille measuring tape, communication chart and electronic device can be used. It will be ensured that those with hearing disability are given objective-type questions, according to the statement.
People who have a disability of 40 per cent or more can make use of the assistance. The agencies conducting the examination can also form a panel of aides, from which the person with disability can choose. Different aides can be chosen for different examinations. The statement said that, various educational institutions, agencies making appointments and institutions conducting examinations were bound to follow the instructions.
