Her mother was only 36 when she had taken in 10 deaf and blind girls when she found them begging on the streets. She had gone on to found the Prerana Resource Centre in 1994. Meghana, 31, carried on her mother's legacy , and on December 1, 2015, she will be honoured with a national award for the empowerment of persons with disabilities, on the occasion of World Disabled Day in New Delhi.
"I grew up with blind and deaf girls in my house. I would talk to them every day after returning home from college. They loved to dress me up. I knew what my mother was doing for the girls but at that time, I didn't realize the value of it, I just thought I had so many friends staying with me. At night, my mother used to let the girls sleep on her lap and that is one of the many things I learnt from her."
