As many as 1.16 lakh eye patients were examined and 12,534 patients’ eyes were operated upon in Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital during calendar year 2015.
These include 4,463 paid cataract surgeries, 74 glaucoma, 22 squint, 272 surgeries of diabetic retinopathy disease and 7,607 free cataract surgeries.
Notably, the Medical Director and Senior Ophthalmologist Dr Prerna Upadhyaya has transplanted cornea to 96 visually impaired patients in this period. This achievement is highest than any other eye hospital based in central India region of the State.
Besides, Sewa Sadan Hospital has conducted 173 free eye camps in 59 nearby cities and towns of nine adjoining districts of State capital Bhopal. The town-wise breakup of surgeries was- 1,249 cataract surgeries in Ahmedpur, Ashta, Rehti, Bilkisganj, Budhni, Chakaldi, Doraha, Ichhawar, Jawar, Ladkui, Mehtwada, Nasrullaganj, Sehore and Shyampur towns of Sehore District. Thus 1,146 Surgeries performed in the camps held at Berasia, Nazirabad and Bhopal city.
Similarly, 1,931 cataract surgeries done in Baadi, Bareli, Begumganj, Chiklod, Diwanganj, Dewri, Gairatganj, Mandideep, Mangrole, Obedullahganj, Pratapgarh, Raisen, Sanchi, Salamatpur, Silwani, Sodalpur, Sultanganj, Sultanpur and Udaipura towns of Raisen district.
As many as 1,004 surgeries were performed in Babai, Hoshangabad, Itarsi, Pipariya, Semri Harchand and Seoni Malwa of Hoshangabad district. During this period, 569 cataract surgeries were done in Biora, Khilchipur, Rajgarh, Kurawar, Narsinghgarh, Pachor, Sarangpur and Talen towns of Rajgarh district. Simultaneously, 440 surgeries were performed in Vidisha and Ganjbasoda of Vidisha district.
Meanwhile, 536 cataract operations have been done in Kalapipal and Shujalpur towns of Shajapur district. As many as 164 patients of Sonkatch, Khategaon and Kannod towns of Dewas district have been operated upon during this period. Similarly, surgeries of 438 patients of Harda and Timarni of Harda district were performed.
Admission in the Hospital, diagnosis, medicines, treatment, surgeries, food, fruits, post operative care, spects and To and Fro transportation facilities are provided free of cost to the patients brought at the camps. After their surgeries three follow-up examinations were done at camp venue by the ophthalmologists to evaluate the vision of the patients.
