The visually challenged persons will become eligible to receive free sewing machines being given by the department of differently-abled welfare from 2016-17 fiscal.
Till now the machines were given only to those with disability in legs and the hearing impaired. From this year on, the welfare assistance would be extended to the visually-impaired too. The machines would be motorised. Even those with 100 per cent blindness may apply if they are trained in tailoring.
The visually challenged in the age group of 18-45 may send application for the machine, to the District Differently Abled Welfare Office in Tiruvannamalai Collectorate Campus within a week. The applicants should enclose copies of national identity card, ration card, age certificate, tailoring training certificate and two copies of passport size photo, said the District Collector A.Gnanasekaran.
