A two-day workshop on “Skilling and Employment for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the context of CSR” in Himachal Pradesh concluded here.
Presiding over the concluding ceremony, Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment Anuradha Thakur said Department invited representations from various sectors to participate in the workshop which provided an opportunity to the prospective employers who not only shared their experience of their interface with the Persons with disabilities (PwDs) but also brought out various suggestions for improving the share of PwDs in the field of employment in the Private Sector.
The Public Sector Undertakings too expressed their willingness not only to employ the PwDs but also to share their Corporate Social Responsibility funds for providing skilling opportunities and aids & appliances to them.
She said an action plan has been prepared for skilling & placement of the PwDs under which the department will identify such PwDs by 18 August, 2016 which were currently available for the job market. Similar exercise will also be taken up each year in the beginning of each year for identifying the future availability of PwDs for the Job Market.
She said the Department of Education will start vocational courses specially for the PwDs in consultation with the Sector Skill Council PwDs from the next Session. Meetings would be organized at the District level in the Districts of Sirmaur, Solan and Una for seeking placement of PwDs in these industries. In addition, the Department will also make efforts with the existing BPO industry in Solan & Shimla to motivate them for employing Visually Handicapped persons.
The Department will also take up short term courses in the hospitality sector with the support of IHM so as to straight away make available the PwDs for the Hospitality sector. Itwill encourage the industries to take it upon themselves the responsibility of employing PwDs as per job identification made by them.
