A 'Blind Walk', where people with sight will be blindfolded and led on a short walk by visually handicapped people, will be organised on World Sight Day on October 13 in Kochi. The walk is being organised by Bangalore-based NGO, The Project Vision, in association with Kerala Blood Donors Association. It will be carried out from St Teresa's College to Durbar Hall, which covers a distance of almost 1.5 kms, at 3 pm. Co-ordinator of The Project Vision Sibu Gerorge said they expect 500-odd persons to participate at the walk, who would be led by 100-odd visually handicapped persons.
The walk is being carried out to create awareness about eye donations and to motivate more people into donating their eyes. As per the data available with us, close to 1.4 lakh eyes are needed per year, but only 30,000 eyes are only bein donated in the same period,” he said. Sibu said that the organisers have begun efforts to enrol more people into the initiative. “We are planning to collaborate with the various LSGs to bring more people. Greater the variety of the crowd that participate greater will be the reach of our message,” Sibu adds. For more details, please contact Sibu (9448071973) or P M Jaffar (8589999923).
