Mon, 05/14/2018 - 10:40 -- geeta.nair

The students of Acropolis College Indore have invented a guiding stick for the visually impaired. This electronic walking stick will help them to identify the hurdles on the path accurately and also inform different other types of changes coming on the way.

The three students of the college, Ayush Upadhyay, Mohit Dwivedi and Rohit Dwivedi of electronics and communication branch have invented this stick under the guidance of their professor Nilesh Dubey. This electronic walking stick has ultrasonic sensors attached to its upper and lower part. The upper sensor of the walking stick will inform the blind person if any hurdle comes in the way.

The ultrasonic sensor which is fitted on the base of the stick will inform the visually impaired about the potholes, drains and other type of hurdles on the ground. This walking stick will also help them to walk on the stairs with precaution.

The red and yellow light fitted on the guiding stick will inform other people that a visually impaired person is moving around. In the second stage the students are also planning to introduce a GPS feature in the guiding stick so that the location and other details of visually impaired person moving can be known. Also if the stick is misplaced somewhere, the owner will come to know about his stick automatically.
