Stresses on partnership for success of public health interventions

Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday said the success of public health interventions is dependent on a healthy partnership between the government, NGOs and private sectors.

Taking part in the 15th annual conference of ‘Vision 2020: The Right to Sight - India’ organised by Aravind Eye Care System, he said deliberations would bring out new ideas to increase the effectiveness of eye care service delivery models.

Citing WHO data, he said the estimated number of visually impaired in India was 62 million, of which eight million are blind. Cataract alone accounted for nearly half of this and 33% of visual impairments worldwide.

He said robots helped perform high precision procedures.

“Countries like India will always have a need to encourage such faster and precision-based systems,” he added.
