Over 52000 schoolchildren from all across the country lined up to take part in the Salwan Marathon held on Sunday in New Delhi. The annual run, which has made its own mark in India's sporting calendar that aims to inspire children through the inspirational power of sports, brought together students from various schools across India, including children from regions such as North-East, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The race was made extra special with the participation of more than 2800 visually impaired and differently-abled children, who with their energy and indomitable spirit were a motivation for everyone.
The Army Equestrian Centre, Brar Square at the Delhi Cantonment played the perfect host and the enthusiasm of the children was palpable as they gave it their all. The marathon categorised participants in 8 different categories - visually impaired, differently-abled (4.5 kms), Under 14 Girls and Boys (4.5 kms), Under 16 Girls and Boys (6 kms) and Under 18 Girls and Boys (8 kms) races.
