A two-day programme for students of Red Cross School for the Blind in Berhampur, Odisha, ended on Thursday. They were taught to use meditation and music as catalysts to eradicate inferiority complex and build a better personality to face the world.
The programme is part of continuing efforts by the residential school for the visually-impaired to extend learning beyond classrooms. It was organised with support of NGO Sahayata.
Speaking to The Hindu , principal Nabin Chandra Satpathy said mental grooming was a major need of these children, who usually suffer from inferiority complex as well as reluctance to reach out to the world. At times, he added, they also suffered from depression.
The programme included four sessions and the children were taught simple pranayam or breathing techniques, easy meditation processes and the use of music to calm the mind. The workshop saw participation by 110 students and the school staff.
