Director Raj Murugan’s Cuckoo, which stars Attakathi Dinesh in the lead, is a tale of romance between two visually impaired individuals. “They make sense of the world through sound and touch. Cuckoo has been conceived of as a musical to give the audience an experience of how those with visual impairment perceive the world around them.”
Santhosh Narayan, who has emerged as the next big thing in the Tamil music scene, has composed the songs.
Web of conspiracy
Director Ssree has invited a lot of criticism for giving his first film a frivolous title Damal Dumeel. However, it’s not just to draw attention, he claims. Apparently, the sound of a gunshot plays a crucial role in taking the plot forward. “It is a story of a youth caught in a web of conspiracy for a day,” says Ssree. The film stars Vaibhav Reddy and Remya Nambeesan.
Tamil remake of Salaam Namaste
Even as Yash Raj Films is ready with its first Tamil film, Aaha Kalyanam, a remake of Band Baaja Baraat, starring Nani and Vaani Kapoor, the production house is already contemplating the Tamil remake of Salaam Namaste, which featured Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta. “We are thinking about it,” says Padam Kumar, who takes care of Yash Raj's operations in the South.
Are they only interested in remakes? “We are open to doing straight films provided the ideas are in sync with the Yash Raj brand of thinking,” he says.
Suriya’s health notes
Complan has roped in actor Suriya as its new brand ambassador. At an event in the city, Suriya unveiled the newly packaged health drink with its focus on strength and stamina to the media.
After arm-wrestling with a young fan as part of the promotions, the actor spoke at length about the need to supplement our daily diet with enough proteins and carbohydrates. The actor was taking time off from Anjaan, which is being directed by Lingusamy and was seen sporting the tough look. “Sixty per cent of the film is over. The film will release in the month of August,” he said.
