A total of 109 differently abled children attended the medical camp organised by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Vellore at the Block Resource Centre of Madhanur on Wednesday. This was part of the second phase of medical camps to be organised by SSA.
According to officials, 109 differently abled children in the age group of 1 to 18 years attended the camp. The camp covered physically challenged children, those with speech and hearing impairment and mentally challenged children from Madhanur and surrounding blocks.
Four doctors – orthopaedician, psychiatrist, ENT specialist and ophthalmologist – and technicians participated in the camp. Identity cards were given for children under the Inclusive Education for Disabled children scheme. A wheel chair was also handed over to a child during the camp, a SSA official said.
“The camp enables us to identify children with disabilities and provide them with assistive devices and cover them under maintenance grant. Most of the children who attended the camp are going to school and very few are home-based. We want the cover the children who were left behind in the first phase of the medical camps,” he said.
Assistant District Programme Coordinator, SSA-Vellore R. Sundaravadivel, supervisor Chidambaranathan, district coordinators Rajalakshmi and Arul Suvigar were present during the camp.
