This is a welcome step! NGO EKansh Trust and St Mira's College for Girls in Pune have come together to start a certificate course in disability to create awareness and inclusion about people with disabilities.
This is a six-week course that will teach about different kinds of disabilities - physical, intellectual, mental, as well as learning. It will teach about the implications, early intervention, as well as the rights of disabled people. EKansh Trust plans to start such courses in other institutes as well.
The founder of the NGO, Anita Iyer Narayansays that while colleges and campuses are enrolling more people with disabilities, there is not much awareness about the challenges they face. The course is going to equip students with this information to understand these steps better.
Sixty-two students have enrolled for the course so far. Many of them are teachers of St. Mira's. There are plans to launch the course in sign language and Braille as well.
