Bhubaneswar: Laxmi Barik is a 15-year-old visually impaired girl. But that has not deterred her from playing cricket. She, along with 43 other visually challenged girls, are busy practising ahead of the first ever blind women's cricket tournament of the state to begin here from Friday.
"When my teacher suggested that I should play cricket, I was not sure. But when held the bat and started practicing, I realized that I could do it," said Laxmi.
Odisha Cricket for the Blind (OCB), in collaboration with Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped (VRCH), along with two voluntary organizations - Indian Institute of Education & Care (IIEC) and National Association for the Blind India (NABI), Odisha chapter - are organizing this coaching-cum-tournament. From the tournament, a state-level team will be selected that will represent Odisha in zonal, regional and national level cricket tournaments.
