Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the statutory body functioning under the administrative control of the Govt. of India, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Department of Consumer Affairs) and responsible for activities in the field of Standardization, Product and System Certification, Hallmarking of Gold/Silver Jewellery, 
Laboratory Testing, etc. in the country, INVITES on-line applications from the ELIGIBLE individuals for filling up of vacancies in the following posts at BIS Headquarters, New Delhi and/or BIS Offices anywhere in India, as per the details given below: 
 
 
 
Post:
1. Stenographer 
No. of posts: 11, out of which 01 for Visually Impaired
Qualification: (a) Degree from a recognized University 
(b) Shorthand test in English or Hindi comprising dictation test at 100 words per minute for ten minutes which the candidates shall be required to transcribe in 40 minutes (English dictation) and in 55 minutes (Hindi dictation) and knowledge of Computer. 
 
Age: 18-30 years
 
Pay Band: PB-2/Rs 9300 - 34800  + Grade pay: Rs. 4200/- 
 
2. Upper Div. Clerk 
No. of posts: 25, out of which 01 for Visually Impaired
Qualification: Graduate from recognized university 
 
Age: 18-27 years
 
Pay Band:PB-1/ Rs 5200 - 20,200 + Grade pay: 2400/-
 
Fee: No fee for PwD candidates.

Probation: 2 years 
 
PWDS with minimum 40% disability shall only be eligible to apply for competing for the posts advertised. 
Definition of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs): 
 
Under Section 33 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 only such persons would be eligible for reservation who suffer from not less than 40% of relevant disability and are certified by a Medical Board constituted by the Central/State Government. Accordingly, candidates with the 
following disabilities are eligible to apply (as per GOI guidelines dated 29.07.2013). Candidates claiming such benefits should produce certificate in original (by the Competent Authority issued on or before the last date of online submission of application in the prescribed format available at the end of this advertisement) in support of their claim at the time of Interview/at any stage of the process. 
Persons with Disabilities will have to work in any Regional ffice/Branch Office as per requirement. 
 
i) Visually Handicapped (VH) – A person having not less than 40% visual impairment is only eligible to apply
 
 
GUIDELINES FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES USING A SCRIBE:
 
The visually impaired candidates and candidates whose writing speed is adversely affected permanently for any reason can use their own scribe at their cost during the online examination, subject to limits as in (ii) and (iii) below. In all such cases where a scribe is used, the following rules will apply: 
 
•The candidate will have to arrange his/her own scribe at his/her own cost. 
 
•The scribe arranged by the candidate should not be a candidate for the same examination .If violation of the above is detected at any stage of the process, candidature of both the candidate and the scribe will be cancelled. Candidates eligible for and who wish to use the services of a scribe in the examination should invariably carefully indicate the same in the online application form. Any subsequent request may not be favourably entertained.
 
 
A person acting as a scribe for one candidate cannot be a scribe for another candidate. 
Age relaxation: PwD- 10 years
 
The address of the venue will be intimated through call letters to be sent by email. 
 
The Centre, venue address, post applied for, date and time for examination/skill test/trade test/ interview shall be intimated in the respective Call Letter. A candidate who has registered successfully should download his/her call letter from the BIS’s website www.bis.org.in by entering his/ her details i.e. Registration Number and Password/Date of Birth. No hard copy of the call letter/ Information Handout will be sent by post/ courier. 
 
Intimations will be sent by email and/ sms to the email ID and mobile number registered in the online application form.
 
Candidates will have to go to the BIS website www.bis.org.in and click on tab “Recruitment Advt./Results” under the head “Career Opportunities” and then click on "APPLY ONLINE" which will open a new screen.
 
Candidates are required to take a printout of the e-Receipt and online Application Form. Please note that if the same cannot be generated, online transaction may not have been successful.
